Dawlish
In South Devon the pleasant seaside resort of Dawlish is very popular with visitors, many of whom return year after year to enjoy the nice atmosphere that the town has to offer.
Dawlish is a nice place to drive to because the scenic countryside suddenly explodes into a panorama of cliffs and roads that run along the coast. Dawlish is situated at the outlet of Dawlish Water and has conspicuous Permian red sandstone cliffs fronted by Dawlish sands.

- In the heart of the town is colourful Dawlish Park, peppered with many varieties of plantlife including bright flowers, palms and even giant cacti.

- The “night lights” which turn Dawlish into a beautiful evening coastal town perfect for summer strolls and al-fresco dining.
- Carnival week (August) offers various free entertainment programs & processions.
- Dawlish boasts an award winning beach and five hundred-acre Nature Reserve.
- Dawlish local produce markets are held monthly on the Lawn and Dawlish has several clubs open to visitors such as the Camera Club, the Dawlish Art Group and the Teignmouth and Dawlish Ramblers Association who have weekly short and long walks along the coastal path, Dartmoor, the river and through fields.
- The town has a number of attractions for those interested in the usual seaside resort type of entertainment and the two main amusement arcades have the latest gambling machines and video games. There is a miniature fairground with Grand Prix go-kart racing, dodgems and slides. The Sun Burnt Arms offers a peaceful public house atmosphere with beer, excellent food and an enormous garden.
- Ashcombe Adventure Centre is set in more than two thousand acres of countryside and hosts a range of activities including paintball, archery, shooting and fishing and a variety of games include Mission Impossible, Hostage Rescue, Bunker Attack, Crashed Plane and VIP.
- The Dawlish Museum collection is at Knowle House and includes collections of nature sciences, crafts, local industries, Victoriana and war.
- Powderham Castle is one of England’s well-known stately homes and it is situated in a beautiful deer park alongside the River Exe and holds many live events such as concerts by Busted, Westlife and Elton John.
- The Paignton Steam Railway runs along the Torbay coast to Kingswear past the River Dart, Britannia Royal Naval College, the Butterwalk, Bayard’s Cove and on to Dartmouth Castle.
- Other attractions not to be missed include Babbacombe Model Village, Paignton Zoo, Buckfast Abbey and the House of Marbles.
- In Dawlish you can also take part in clay pigeon shooting.
Close to Dawlish is “Dawlish Warren” – a seaside town that is believed to have one of the best five beaches within the United Kingdom (it has received the European Blue Flag Award). Aside from a great beach, Dalwish Warren has plenty to offer wildlife enthusiasts – being located in a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) the area attracts many wildfowl and wading birds. The area is also home to over 600 types of flora.
Dawlish is twelve miles from the City of Exeter and the railway route from Plymouth to Exeter is one of the most spectacular coastal routes passing through Totnes, Newton Abbot, Dawlish Warren and Teignmouth.
Exeter and Plymouth airports serve Dawlish and National Express coaches have a direct service. Dawlish railway station is situated in the centre of the town next to the beach and buses operating in the district include Devon General, Tavistock CT and Dawlish Coaches.
